Born on January 4, 1976, in South Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of
Congo (DRC), Dr. Justin Mudekereza, Ph.D., is a humanitarian,
philanthropist, consultant, college teacher, writer and reluctant but
inspired politician. Most importantly, he is a husband and a father.
Born into the large family of 46 children of his late father Victor
Bisimwa, a powerful culture leader in Kabare, he learned under his
father’s tutelage to make peace, to share with others and, above all,
to fight for others when they are victims of injustice. He is an icon
known for his many efforts for social justice, human rights, and
community development. His surname is a title given him by his
father, meaning peacemaker, and he was often urged by him to “live
this name.”
Justin fled the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2006 following torture
and near-death ordered by an evil politician whose campaign he refused
to help. Dr. Mudekereza is the author of several books. Some of his
most popular books are: Understanding the Multifaceted Management
Problems of Refugee Resettlement in the United States of America, The
Only War That the United States is Unlikely to Win, and Shithole
Countries: The Shocking Truth that Should Have Served as a Lesson.
The Justin Mudekereza Foundation assists orphans and vulnerable
children, widows, and others in need in South Kivu, DRC. He is the
executive director of New Neighbor Relief (NNR), a non-profit
organization helping refugees in their struggle to start a new life in
California, United States of America (www.newneighborrelief.org).
Dr. Mudekereza is the winner of the 2022 Nelson Mandela Leadership
Award by the NRI association (UK chapter), for his successful efforts
to repeal a tax by the current regime on the 65 million cell phones in
DR Congo that illegally collected nearly $2 billion USD. Dr.
Mudekereza is currently leading, by its invitation, the Movement for
Democracy and Real Change registered in DRC with the aim of giving
back the country to the people through a peaceful revolution. This
movement started as a grassroots pressure movement, which forced
former President Joseph Kabila to leave office after he tried to
change the constitution and run for a 3rd term.
The movement led by Justin is growing very rapidly and is planning to
present women and youth, as well as men, to be candidates at all
levels, including the presidency, for elections that will take place
this year, 2023, on December 20th.
